I Met An Astronaut.

Well, I'm not sure where to start on this one. I had a really cool experience last week. I met an astronaut. Now, considering that there are less than 500 people who have ever been in space....that's pretty amazing! Duane "Digger" Carey, former shuttle pilot, came by to visit with us about encouraging our youth to their best. (Ok, he just didn't drop in....they paid him to come, but still!) He was so interesting. I wish we had longer to visit with him, but maybe we can get him back to visit with the students. They will LOVE him! He has quite a story. Here are nine of the 6th grade teachers posing with Digger.

Back to School

Well, it's that time again! Summer vacation is coming to a close, and the stores are filled to the brim with new school supplies anticipating being taken to their new destination. This Monday I will get up at 6:00 a.m. once again (which may be a little difficult!) :) and dress in something "professional." Choosing something to wear other than my usual summer attire....shorts and a t-shirt (or worse: a swimsuit!). Carry myself to the annual "smile and shake," and visit for 20 minutes before hearing the state of the union address given by the superintendent. Then sit through a week's worth of inservice, which always reminds me why I need to make my teaching interesting....ha. Then the kids will return on the 18th to meet their new teachers for the year, and for classes on the 19th. I think what I've learned the most in the last twenty-two years of teaching is not to sweat the small stuff, let the kids know you care, and above all keep a good attitude. Attitude is everything. It's another 170 days of work for me! I finished my classroom this morning. It's all ready for the kiddos.
