Pine Cove Scrapbooking Conference 2009

I never dreamed one year ago when I signed up for a scrapbooking weekend that I would get so much for my money! Leslie Boyd and her mom, Trisha Franks have attended this scrapbooking conference at Pine Cove Camp located in Tyler, TX for a while. This is even Leslie's ninth year! I jumped on the scrapbook bandwagon last year when I made a book for my in-laws 50th Wedding Anniversary. I have dabbled in scrapbooking before, but never at these extremes!!! So after Leslie returned home last year, I decided to make my reservations for 2009 and "check it out." Along the way, another friend and co-worker of mine, Bonnie Flurry, was intrigued and decided to join us too. A few weeks ago, my friend, co-worker and neighbor across the street, Jodi White, (very new to scrapbooking) signed up for the girls weekend away. So Friday after school, with the car packed to the brim, we headed to Tyler, Texas with great expectations of scrapbooking the whole weekend!
Here we are ready to go, Leslie, Trisha, Bonnie, Jodi, and myself!
Ok, I've been on a lot of road trips and family vacations, but NEVER had I had so much stuff in my suburban! This is what the second and third seats looked like.
So sorry about the "view" Jodi, but I had to share what lengths you went to getting yourself into that third seat.....we didn't leave you much room!

Here's Trisha, Jodi, and Leslie ready to roll........we were praying there would not be an accident along the way for many reasons. Jodie might not have been found!

Here's the back of the car before we left. We actually did get more bags in after the door was closed. We had to put them through the back window.....can't scrap without those supplies!!!

Leslie told us that we COULD NOT stop on the way, so we would get there and not miss supper!!!! So we headed out and the next stop was PINE COVE!

Here we are unloaded (by the way it was so dark!) We had to unload and find our way to the cabins and our scraprooms in the dark! NOW I understand why they put on the supply list: FLASHLIGHT......didn't pack one! Crazy maneuvering through roots and pinecones, but it was totally worth it! Check out our work table! Remember, we had a LOT of stuff in that car! I'm back there waiting for something to be cut on the cricut.

Well, that night we cropped until about 1:30ish. We decided to retire to our rooms. I waited until the next morning to make the pictures of our cabins. They were so nice! Big rooms, airconditioned,......better than any camp I've ever been to!!!!!!!!
Every room had a big bed, bunk beds and a futon.

We had two adjoining rooms....plenty of room for the five of us. Here's Trisha and Leslie getting ready.

Here's the futon....that's where I slept. It really wasn't bad!

This is our dining room. It was so tranquil overlooking the lake.

Here's a early, cloudy picture the of lake.. In the far distance you can see the chapel that is located at the camp. At night, the front of the chapel lights up in the shape of a cross.

Well, here we are the first morning waiting for breakfast to be served. Notice that we are the first ones in the dining hall!!!! That happened every time there was a meal this weekend....you would think that there would be a door prize for the first arrivals? :-)

Waiting for our breakfast to be served!!! We had sausage, oatmeal, and blueberry pancakes on Saturday morning. They were delicious! (by the way, we made these pictures before the dining room filled up) Only a few seconds after this was made the women filled up the place!
Now the door prizes were amazing! They gave away lots of scrapping supplies, and free coffees in the Caribou Cafe, but the BEST door prize was free massages!!! I won a free chair massage!!!! It was AMAZING!!!! I went at 8:45 pm after a whole day of cropping.....perfect to get my neck and back loosened up for another late night of scrapping!

This is Jodi and Leslie in front of our Cropping Room. Our room was called the "Roly Poly Room" When you see the walls in that room, you'll understand why! They had these rooms scattered all over the camp. Women were everywhere!

Here's Trisha. Her project for the weekend was to scrap their yearly trip with the church. She actually finished her book! Yay, Trisha!!! She was a machine!!!
Here's Jodi. Her project for the weekend was to begin a Christmas book. We called her our "Scrapbook Virgin." After seeing her in action, she lost that title VERY quickly. She did a wonderful job. She's very "crafty!"

Here's the girls working at our table. We were very productive for the weekend! I didn't get a picture of Bonnie by herself, but she scrapped all her wedding picture from 30 something years ago.....It turned out so pretty!

Here's my little spot at the table.

Here's Leslie working on her 2007 book. She does one book for each year.....she's not too far behind! :-)

Here's me.......My project (I humorously thought for the weekend) was to scrap 27 years of Christmas'. ha ha......I started on the year 1982....that was the year Chip and I started dating....I thought.......ha.....that I would do all the way to 2008......I got to 1988.....still have a ways to go. My new goal is to have a different project for next year's conference!!!!!!!!!

Here's Jodi and Bonnie in front of our cabins.

This is Jodi and myself by our cabins, Azalea lodge. See all the bushes behind us? Those are azaleas....they were huge and EVERYWHERE on the grounds. I know the place must be beautiful when those are in full bloom!

This is a far off view of the lake from our cabin.

Here's a better picture of the lake and the chapel.

They announced when we arrived that we were welcome to take out the canoes and paddleboats. I don't think they were moved all weekend!??? (we were kinda busy!)

These guys were part of our dinner entertainment.....they came in and introduced themselves as "Jack Track" and "Mack Track" otherwise known as the "Mack Attack." They were hilarious! They posed as guys selling scrapbook supplies in the parking lot....just in case we ran out of things.

Here they are showing us some of their "goods." A green ribbon.....

This poor "lady" came in and said that she was out of coffee and had been up all night.....he he....she needed "supplies"

They tried to sell her what they called, "the Bumblebee." In reality it was a staple gun with a pair of scissors and a flashlight taped to it with pink duct tape............too funny.....

Now this is part that I had not bargained for. I knew this was a Christian based camp, and I knew we were there for the right reasons, but I never dreamed this weekend would be such a blessing to me. This is Amy. She was the camp coordinator this year and she delivered our prayers before the meal and our devotionals. We had devotionals after each and every meal. It was so amazing. Our verse that we studied for the weekend was Hebrews 12:22-24.
"But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assemble of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel."

We learned that Mt. Zion is a place that God has made for us, who believe and except Jesus as our personal savior. It's a place where we belong, and are drawn in because we are in the family of God. It's a place for transformation and change for us who are sinners. God's name is known there and we worship Him for who He is. This place cannot be shaken....it's eternal. We must be grateful for what we have received and what cannot, Thank Heaven, be changed! God is faithful and we belong to Him. AMEN!!! We should go out and pursue those things that will last forever....our salvation and Mt. Zion!
I went to scrapbook....I came home with a renewed, refreshed, and rested heart! Good job, Amy...you are so blessed with the ability to share God's amazing Word so well!

I took this picture of a set of cabins........if you look closely, there was evidently a tree in the way....so they just built the cabin around it! I thought that was cool!
This is Mallory. She is a worker at the camp. So sweet were these kids that waited on us hand and foot this weekend!

Leslie scratched her forehead and was holding her finger on it so it wouldn't bleed.....for an extended amount of time.......couldn't resist taking this picture....she sat like this for a long time....too funny! I told them up front...if you do something, it's going in the blog!
This was our joke of the weekend.....Every night at about 9:00 the counselors would bring around fresh fruit, drinks, and the most wonderful cookies you've ever put in your mouth.....ALL DAY LONG on Saturday, Bonnie kept saying, "When are they bringing the cookies????" She was so upset that we only got them at night! So we talked to Katie, our little helper, and convinced her to tell Bonnie on Saturday night that there were no more cookies....ONLY fruit........Bonnie was leary, but a little upset!!!! Here's Katie giving Bonnie the bad news! Katie was very convincing! (we had her lying at a church camp!)

This one is blurry, but they brought in some cookies that they "found"....priceless.....look at the excitement on Bonnie's face!

Yay!!! Bonnie gets her cookies!!!

Here's Bonnie with her cookies....she got the whole tray!!! We didn't think she would share after the mean trick we played on her!

Mom and daughter....they look alike, don't you think?

These are some pictures of us and some of the other girls in our crop room.

We cropped until 1:30 again on Saturday night!
Here we are posing for a picture on a bridge on one of the trails. Pretty place.

We had a few extra minutes before brunch this morning, so we took a stroll around the grounds. Leslie was striking a pose in the hammock.....silly girl!

Making our way toward the dining room....

Here's all the teachers: Bonnie, Leslie and I teach 6th grade and Jodi teaches 4th.

Leslie and I by the lake.

I love this picture.....all the teachers in the rockers....not retired yet!

Here's another scrapping room.....they were still working this morning! They're probably from the Tyler area and had more time to scrap....we had to pack up to come home, boo hoo.

Hanging out at the Caribou Cafe. So pretty and peaceful in there!

Here's the little guy who was one of the "Track Brothers." He was so funny and helpful all weekend long. I can't for the life of me remember his name! Sorry!

Now for the Brunch! Here's Chef Peggy. The food here is beyond what I ever dreamed...the breakfast you've heard about, but we had Mexican night with Fahitas, pork loin and all the fixins...Loaded baked potatoes and soup/salad..........served on real plates, displayed beautifully...and the best thing of all.....we didn't have to wash any dishes!!!!

Here's the kids getting ready for our brunch...they were all from Texas A&M. Great bunch of workers they have! It's refreshing to see young people so dedicated to the work of the Lord. They gave up their weekend to come help with this camp...then back to school tomorrow!

This picture of the brunch buffet doesn't do it justice....the food was spectacular! Eggs Benedict, Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Roasted Potatoes, French toast, Breakfast Quesadillas, Biscuit/Gravy...fruit, roast, the list goes on and on..............they feed you like queens!!!

Here's the poor little lady trying to "return" the bumblebee from earlier in the weekend....only for the boys to try to sell her the "Dungbeetle." It had a bottle of syrup taped to the end....they got so into their skit, the lid was off.....needless to say there was a LARGE amount of syrup on the floor left for some poor soul to clean up!

We had to total up pages completed for our table and turn them in. Prizes were given for the most.
I completed 23 pages, Bonnie did 30, Leslie did 24, Jodi turned out 19, and Trisha did an amazing 45 pages!!!!!
The girl who won for the conference did 66 pages this weekend!!!!! She was a working dude!
The total for everyone at the conference this weekend was: (are you ready for this?)
2,152 pages!!!!!! WE were some working girls!!!!!!!

Well, we're packed up and on the road home.........can't wait until next year! We registered for next year before we left the camp!!!!!

I so enjoyed my weekend....I'm home with a rested spirit, new scrapbook pages, and memories of good times with good friends.
