A Little Halloween Past and Present..

Jessica’s love for carving Halloween Pumpkins began many, many years ago. Our cousin, Dean Peace, used to be around a lot when pumpkin carving time was near (hunting), but we’ll just say he came to carve pumpkins! lol He loved to share his expertise with Jessica, who always thought (and still thinks) Dean was the coolest.

Pumpkin Carving at Our House

It’s that time of year again….at our house it is a long time tradition that Jessica carve her Halloween pumpkin. She’s becoming quite the expert! She went pumpkin shopping today and came home with two of the biggest pumpkins I’ve ever seen! Clint was always on the sidelines when it came to pumpkin carving…the sight and smell of the insides ALWAYS made him throw –up….another long time tradition! :) Anyway, this year, he actually volunteered to cut out the top of her pumpkins, but then quickly exited the kitchen when the “guts” started coming out!

Another Halloween tradition at our house is to watch scary Halloween movies….but the favorite of the whole house is “Hocus Pocus.” The kids have watched it so many times in the past years that the tape is worn out. They had it memorized. While at Walmart, Jessica found the DVD of Hocus Pocus! She purchased it on the spot, so that is playing in the background…..it’s precious to see them reciting each line as if they were trying out for the parts themselves! Guess they’ll still be kiddos forever!

Ok, on the the next step….applying the pattern to the pumpkin. Here Jessica takes the patter and punches little holes into the side of the pumpkin so she will know where to cut.

Last night we went to the Country Club to celebrate my friend, Bitty’s, Birthday. We had a great time. We were joined by our friends, Marla and Steve, Lynn and Joe, and Bitty’s parents, Miss Jimmie Ann and Mr. Raymond. We had a great time; as we always do!

Happy Birthday, Chip Weldon!

I can’t believe another year has rolled around. (They seem to be going very quickly???? What’s going on? ….Don’t answer that!) Chip is 48 today! I REMEMBER thinking that 50 was SOOOOO old. It’s amazing how time changes things….like your mind! :) 1961 was a great year because it gave me a great man. I was 17 and he was 19 when we met….Thanks, Chip, for the best (and fastest) 28+ years of my life!

Seeing Pink……

Last Wednesday Central Elementary had a fund raiser for Relay for Life. We had to “pay” to wear pink that day. We had a lot of fun with it. Here we are with Trisha Franks, Leslie Boyd’s mom, who was representing the survival group, Steel Magnolias. She came by to see all our pink that day! There I am on the front row!

Just another Friday at work…..

Last spring our kiddos took the yearly benchmark test…The Arkansas ACTAAP. We tried some different strategies last year that paid off! Our test scores were raised! NOW, we still have a ways to go to meet the projected standard of NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND, but hey, we are showing progress!!!!! What I think about that program is a whole different post, (sorry Ted Kennedy, RIP). I won’t go there. ANYWAY, our principal told them last year, if we did better, we would have a cookout! So true to her word, we grilled turkey dogs (still gotta watch that BMI!) lol, and enjoyed a picnic on the playground. The kids had a BALL!!!!
