Easters Past

First of all I have to take this moment to celebrate the fact that I serve a risen Savior!!! That alone is enough reason to run shouting in the streets! I love Easter. I love the fact the we are reminded every year at this time that although Christmas is VERY special, it is Easter that we are given THE perfect gift. He is ALIVE! (and I wouldn't even want to think where we would be without Him!)
This is a picture of my mama, sister, and myself from a few Easters ago. I was looking for really old pictures of ann and I hunting Easter eggs at my Granny Smith's house. Couldn't find any. Charlene, does your mama have any of our BIG bunch of "younguns," as Granny used to say, doing those huge egg hunts we used to have? Boy, those were the good old days....We would all gang up at Granny and Grandaddy Smith's for a big Easter weekend.

My all time favorite memory of Easters past is when we were hunting eggs: every kid would go running at break neck speed through the pasture, hunting for the elusive egg...(steering clear of all the cow patties!!) lol Anyway, Daddy would walk and whistle, looking up in the air and around...like he was taking a leisurely stroll...all the while stretching to point, or leaning his head toward the eggs that were hidden! HE was definitely the one to hang around when hunting for eggs. Lord knows there were so many of us, you had to have a little home field advantage to get any of the good ones!!! I also remember Granny Smith dying goose eggs (from the geese on their farm) for prize eggs. Good times! Please feel free to add your favorite Easter memories. I'd love to hear them!

  1. Oh, we did have fun!! But wait, Uncle Franklin helped you cheat? What? That's how you and Ann got all the good eggs? Well, you just never know about some people, I'm crushed, heart-broken even. Naw, I'm just kidding, we all had our helpers, didn't we? I do remember those big ol' goose eggs. HaHa, I haven't thought about that dang goose in years. My goodness, that sucker was mean!!! I swear it tried to kill us everytime we went in that pasture on the way to the pond. I don't mean hurt us, I mean kill us! Granny and/or Grandaddy would always remind us about that goose when we headed to the pond. Now really, did you need to be reminded, I didn't.

I loved going to Granny's house for Easter. How about those HUGE egg hunts at Green Granny's house, and remember the one's at Granny's church? Those days were great. It's a shame we let our busy lives get in the way of making those kinds of memories for our kids. We don't get together near enough.

My favorite memories at Granny's is the Easter eggs hunts and gathering the mayhaw berries. I know very well that is because the whole family was together, even if it was for just one day.

Thsnk you so much for reminding me of those special, sweet days we all spent together.

    Love ya,
    Charlene

P.S. Mama has some pictures from Green Granny's house, I saw them just a few weeks ago.

  2. Please share the pictures! I don't have any of us a Green Granny's. Mama has old home movies, but no still pictures.

  3. Funny story about that old goose: When she was sitting, she was "extra mean!" Chip and I hadn't been dating long and Daddy had told him all about the great fish that were in Grandaddy's pond. Well, you know you had to go through several gates and pastures to get to the pond....Chip was an avid fisherman, so off he went with his pole and tackle box...after he made it through the first gate, I yelled at him to "stop!" I was going to run and tell him to watch out for that old goose because Grandaddy said she was sitting. Daddy yelled at him to "go on!" and told me to shut up...he wouldn't let me tell him...Needless to say, Daddy, Grandaddy, and several uncles had quite a laugh at Chip's expense when he "encountered" the goose! She honked and flogged him, chasing him from her territory! Charlene, you never had to remind Chip about the old goose after that either!!!!

  5. I remember all of the above and I don't think any goose on this earth was as mean as the one they had! The big goose eggs were my favorite ones to dye and to find! :) What wonderful memories! We DO need to get together more so our kids can share great times & memories like that.
